A Texas Historical Marker at the gravesite of Lt. Commander Edward Lea, USN was dedicated at the Episcopal Cemetery in Galveston, Texas on Jan. 14, 2006.
Lea was a U.S. Naval Officer mortally wounded during the battle of Galveston, whose father, a Confederate Officer, managed to reach Edward before he died. Edward's last words "My father is here" were etched on his tombstone.
The funeral was attended by both Union and Confederate forces.
The John B. Hood Color Guard joined the
Edward Lea Camp of Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
(see first quarter 2006 newsletter) for the dedication ceremony.

The eighth Veterans day parade in Houston invited Sons of Confederate Veterans for the first time. The crowd was large and enthusiastic.
